Millennials take liberty in using the word "promise" sans reference to its original meaning. They would, for example, say, "It tastes good. Promise!" Today's gospel describes promise in its correct sense. Jesus promised to send the Paraclete which in Greek means "one called to stand at the side of another," a defense lawyer, so to say. True to his promise, he sent the Holy Spirit, our Advocate and Guide. Jesus teaches us the meaning of a promise. What he says, he does. |
