At times we imagine doctors to be immune from disease. Laypeople imagine us, priests, to be free from suffering. And we are surprised when we discover that doctors die of cancer and priests get depressed. Yes, everyone has a cross. That is a "conditio sine qua non" in following Jesus. His "via crucis" is the same way that we tread. The Lord made it clear, "Whoever wishes to come after me should take up his cross." |
