One love song is entitled, "What matters most..." It's good to ask that question: What is it that really matters most? Today's gospel provides an answer. Simon the Pharisee prepares sumptuous food for Jesus but the sinful woman does more. What she offers is a banquet of love as a gesture of repentance and overflowing gratitude for forgiveness. Parents working abroad lavish their children with goods. Only one thing matters most -- their presence that takes no substitute. |
