"Give alms and everything will be clean for you." What is the meaning of this? How is charity connected with inner purity? Jesus chides the Pharisees who cleanse the outside of the cup but inside are filled with plunder. We call it hypocrisy. We pretend to be clean externally but deep within we are tarnished by selfishness and failure to love. Very ironic! We can only combat egoism if we infame charity with our little acts of giving. |
