The senators are supposed to know they are servants of the people who put them into office. Having been duly elected they are committed to their constitutional duty. Their 'Yes' must be unwavering. "Let your 'Yes' mean 'Yes," says Jesus in today's gospel. When the 18 senators voted to remand the articles of impeachment to the House of Representatives, their commitment seemingly tended to wane. Let the gospel guide them. |
