Hatred begets hatred. Violence begets violence. In today's gospel, retaliation [from "lex talionis"]is never encouraged. Instead, we should "offer no resistance." Let love be the rule. We give "the cloak, the other cheek and the etra mile." These are antidotes to revenge. When love and forgiveness come together the chain of anger is cut. Jesus did just that. We are expected to emulate him. |
