There is a Latin saying "Virtus stat in medio." Yes, virtue is in the middle. Spirituality is not either one or the other but both. It is not preferring the contemplation of Mary over the action of Martha. It is a happy blending of both. A true mark of holiness is the balance of prayer and action. Too much prayer is pietism and too much work is activism. A virtuous man is praying to God and serving his fellow. |
