Who was the real "headless?" Was it John the Baptist or Herod Antipas? Yes, the Baptizer was decapitated but he remained undaunted until the end. Herod was afraid to touch John but could not retract his promise. He vowed to give anything to the girl whose dance delighted him. He was too proud to recant his statement. For his cowardice, he was, in effect, headless. When obstinacy rules over us, we lose our face. We lose our dignity. We end up being headless. |
