The problem with our prayers is that we tell God what He already knows. The best prayer, therefore, is SILENCE. We don't say anything but God hears what our hearts convey. The Pharisee, in the parable, was talking too much. He was making a litany of self-aggrandizement. He was proudly pontificating. The publican, on the other hand, could only say a few words, "Have mercy on me, a sinner." For God that was the best prayerful utterance. |
