In Rome the first place I visited was St. Mary Major Basilica. Paying respects to the tomb of Pope Francis, I recalled that this pope used to honor Mary as "Salus Populi Romani." Today, we celebrate rhe Divine Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary which is the central mystery in her life. Proclaimed by the Council of Ephesus in the year 431, Mary is truly the Theotokos, the "bearer of God," the Mother of God. As we come to the threshold of 2026, let us take comfort that we have a Great Mother. |
