When we are tempted to wallow in fame, it's about time we withdraw from a crowd and get in touch with the Famous One, God. In today's gospel, people were following Jesus after he cured a leper. But the Lord withdrew to deserted places to pray. It is normal to rejoice at our own success. It is human to rest on our laurels but Christian discipleship orients us to a different attitude. Honor is due to God and to Him alone. In prayers we realize that. |
