True indeed, familiarity breeds contempt. The townmates of Jesus knew him so well. They called him the carpenter's son. They could not believe that mighty deeds were wrought by his hands. They took offense at him. Such is our reaction at the sight of success of people whom we belittle. We tend to box others as though they are incapable of accomplishing great works. Lest we forget people are dynamic creatures. They can become what they are not. |
