"Give us today our DAILY BREAD." Biblical scholars interpret the Greek word "epiousios" to mean (1) bread for today or (2) bread for the coming day or (3) bread necessary for existence. Despite such variation, one common message is that this bread comes DAILY and this reality poses a tremendous challenge. Elsewhere, Jesus commands us to take up our cross DAILY. If we receive this bread daily, we have the strength to bear our cross on a daily basis, too. |
