The name "Magdalene" has always been pejorative. It is traditionally taken in the derogatory or contemptuous sense. People thought the woman in the gospel was a prostitute. But in reality she was not. The gospel simply says "she was rid of seven demons by Jesus." Mary Magdalene was a faithful disciple of Jesus. After meeting the Risen Lord, she became a great evangelizer. |
