There is a world of difference between knowledge (call it 'theory') and practice. Doubtless the double commandment of love lifted from Dt. 6:4 and Lev. 19:18 is known to all. Who doesn't know what love is? It is written on man's heart. Problem, sad truth to tell, is the concrete living out of the commandment. One may know what love is but remains untouched by the pressing need of a fellow. The question is not familiarity but operation. We are told to love. Let this command be translated into life. |
